Beijing Guoan moved to within two points of Chinese Super League leaders Guangzhou Evergrande after a 1-0 win over Dalian Aerbin.
While Evergrande played out a 1-1 draw away to Shandong Luneng, Friday’s victory moved Beijing to 24 points, just two adrift of the leaders.
Midfielder Wang Xiaolong scored his team’s goal in the 27th minute to defeat 14th-placed Aerbin and earn Beijing their third straight league win.
Guangzhou Evergrande were on track for victory thanks to Zhang Linpeng’s fifth-minute goal away from home.
But with five minutes to go, Wang Yongpo gave Shandong’s fans something to cheer about when he scored the equaliser.
The draw puts 15th-placed Shandong onto 11 points, equal with the two clubs above them, Aerbin and Shanghai Shenhua.
In Friday’s other CSL match, Tianjin Teda were held 0-0 at home to Shanghai Shenxin.
