Mulumbu in Spurs and Toon talks World Soccer Shop

West Brom midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu claims to have held discussions with Newcastle and Tottenham regarding a possible summer switch.

Mulumbu: Wants another challenge

The former Congo international appears set to leave The Hawthorns once the transfer window re-opens and says his agent is already in talks with potential suitors.

He is prepared to leave the matter in the hands of his representative, but admits he would be open to the idea of trying his luck elsewhere in 2012/13.

"We have already started talking to teams like Newcastle and Tottenham," Mulumbu told Mercato 365.

"For now, I'm leaving it all in the hands of my agent and I hope to have good surprises on my return from vacation."

Mulumbu joined West Brom in January 2009 on an initial loan deal, with the Baggies making the agreement permanent that summer.

The 25-year-old admits he considered heading for pastures new in 2011, but was persuaded to remain with the Baggies.

He penned a contract that is due to run until 2015, but believes he is now ready to take on a new challenge.

Mulumbu said: "Last year, I thought it would be a little premature to go because it was my first full season.

"But I confirmed my promise this season. I continued to show all my abilities and I think I now have to look for another challenge. That's why I hope to join a club in another class.

"I had a good year, I'm pretty confident and I will leave it now to my agent.

"I'm going to go on holiday and come back stronger because I know that another big season lies ahead."

Pardew hoping to manage England

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has revealed he would like to coach England once he proves himself in the Premier League.

The 50-year-old helped guide Newcastle to a surprising fifth spot in the English Premier League in 2011/12.

Despite being voted both Barclays and League Managers’ Association Manager of the Season, Pardew said he still had room for improvement.

“To be recognised by people who do the job and understand football is fantastic,” he told the Evening Standard.

“I will not have proven myself good enough until I’ve been in the Premier League for four or five years, won a trophy and competed in Europe.”

The former West Ham said he thought Harry Redknapp could have landed the England role ahead of Roy Hodgson were it not for the role of the media.

“Do I think Harry should have got the job? I thought at the time if the media hadn’t played it so strongly maybe he’d have got it,” Pardew said.

“Because there was such a big push for him, maybe the FA thought they’d do something else. I’ve got no problem with Roy. He deserved it, he had all the right credentials. I’m just glad it’s an Englishman.

“Maybe the initial move for Sven-Goran Eriksson was because they thought another English manager was going to get pilloried by the press.

“It just got all out of hand. Foreign managers have changed nothing.

“The England team has not improved and these foreign managers have done actually no better than the English managers who went before.”

Pardew linked to Bolton´s Davies

Newcastle United are preparing a three million pounds bid for Bolton midfielder Mark Davies as they look to European football.

United want to sign the former Wolves player to bolster their midfield options ahead of a campaign that will include Europa League football.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew sees Davies as the ideal recruit to intensify the competition for places in midfield where French international Yohan Cabaye and Ivorian Cheikh Tiote struck up a formidable partnership last season.

The pair were instrumental in the fifth-placed finish in the Premier League that means Pardew’s side, who were relegated three years ago, could look forward to a return to European football.

Bolton manager Owen Coyle is reluctant to allow 24-year-old Davies to quit the Reebok Stadium following the Trotters’ relegation to the Championship but it is understood that the offer will be enough to prise him away from the Lancashire club.

“They have had their eye on him for some time now and so if all goes well then Mark will be a Newcastle player this summer,” a Tyneside source told Goal.com.

“They are talking about three million pounds for a player who did well for Bolton even though they went down.

“He is a bright, skilful and hard-working player who would fit nicely into Pardew’s team but it would be made clear to him that he would have to get past Cabaye and Tiote to get into the first team.”

Newcastle’s interest in Davies suggests that Danny Guthrie, who has been linked with Aston Villa, will be allowed to leave when the transfer window opens in June with his contract expiring in the next fortnight.

Former Manchester United full-back Danny Simpson, who is reported to be interesting Fulham, will also be allowed to leave having rejected a new deal.

Newcastle are also being tipped to sign 22-year-old full-back Romain Amalfitano from French Ligue 2 club Stade de Reims with a deal already agreed.
