Roma general manager Franco Baldini has revealed that Zdenek Zeman is likely to be the club’s new head coach.
The Rome-based club have been looking for a new coach since Luis Enrique quit the club at the end of the 2011-12 season.
Zeman, 65, has enjoyed a lengthy career in management and guided Pescara to the Serie B title last season.
He is one of the favourites to win the job with the Stadio Olimpico outfit and Baldini’s comments on Thursday indicate that Zeman’s appointment is only a matter of days away.
“I believe that we can rule out any surprises,” Baldini told Roma Channel.
“The affair will be concluded in a favourable manner. We had the chance to meet Zeman this morning (Friday). I must thank the president of Pescara (Daniele Sebastiani), who made it possible for us to see him.
“We discussed everything about his possible return in detail but there are still some details to be defined. However, there is optimism regarding the success of the negotiations.”
The Czech coach previously managed Roma from 1997-99.
