Quakers relegated four divisions World Soccer Shop

Darlington will be relegated four divisions below the Blue Square Bet Premier to play in the Northern League from next season.

Darlington: Will play in the Northern League from next season

Following relegation from the Conference, fans' company Darlington 1883 purchased the club in the hope the Quakers would be placed in the Evo-Stik League Northern Premier.

However, because DFC 1883 bought the club without a company voluntary arrangement in place, the Football Association has put Darlington in Division One of the Northern League, where they will play County Durham-based outfits including Newton Aycliffe, Consett, Spennymoor and Bishop Auckland.

They will also face Shildon, with whom they will share a ground during 2012/13 after leaving the Darlington Arena.

DFC 1883 confirmed the FA had stressed the next step for the stricken club would be the Northern League.

DFC 1883 project manager Craig McKenna told The Northern Echo: "We had appraised all potential outcomes and have produced plans and a financial model that will work at this level.

"The focus now will be to get the football club back up through the leagues as quickly as possible.

"We can be inspired by clubs like Chester, Wrexham and others who have taken this journey and enjoyed great football, grounds with atmosphere and a rekindling of supporters' enthusiasm."
