Luka Modric feels Croatia can spring a surprise at Euro 2012, despite being drawn in a tough group for the tournament in Poland and Ukraine.
Slaven Bilic’s Croatia side have been drawn alongside defending champions Spain, 2006 World Cup winners Italy and Giovanni Trapattoni’s Republic of Ireland.
Modric acknowledges Croatia have it all to do if they are to reach the knockout stages, but the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder nevertheless believes his team are capable of upsetting the odds.
“Everybody knows we’re in a tough group,” he said.
“The Irish are a fanatical football nation and they have a very good team with many experienced Premier League players.
“The Italians and the Spanish were world champions in 2006 and 2010. They are the favourites, but we will try to spoil their plans.”
Croatia begin their campaign against Ireland in Poznan on June 10.
